Good morning, everybody! This is just a quick note to let everyone know that we brought Richard home from the hospital last night! At 3:00 p.m., the test results came back showing a Methotrexate level of 0.09, so they tested him again. At 6:00 p.m., the lab said his level was 0.06. If he promised to drink extra fluids, they told him he could go home since it was so close!
He is working on getting lots of rest (making up for what he didn't get in the hospital)! So far, side effects are minimal - mostly just fatigue. He didn't have much of an appetite yesterday, but he hasn't had much nausea either. The doctors said it may take a little longer for any side effects of these drugs to become apparent.
Rich will go to LGH on Thursday for his usual Thurs. bloodwork, and he will also have another intrathecal (brain port) dose of Ara-C (name of a chemo drug). He will get his Neulasta shot (white blood cell booster) as well. Thankfully, he has no schedule appts. today or tomorrow; so hopefully, he can get a lot of rest!
Thanks for all of your posted comments; Richard loves "checking his blog" to see if anyone posted any new comments!
Round 2 down... The doctors are pleased with the progress the drugs have made on the mass in his chest and how his body is responding to the chemo! Let's keep hoping and praying for the best!
My turn:
Rose are red,
Violet are blue;
It was time for Richard
To get a new do.
(I shaved his head for him again on Sat. - he was tired of eyelash-size hairs falling out all over the place!)

Great News! So happy to hear that your stay was shorter than expected and that your body responded well to the first round of treatment! God is good!
Your attitude is so wonderful... a good example to all of us! Positive thoughts really do make a difference!
Hope you get the rest you need and I will see you soon!
HAPPY SPRING! Love ya, Aunt Angela
Hey Rich!
Glad to hear things went well with the second round of chemo!! How good it must feel to once again be back home in your own bed. No more noisy roomates to put up with. haha By the way I'm enjoying your poems...I didn't realize you were a poet! Such hidden tallents :) Ok, get some rest, hope you are feeling re enegerized again soon!!
Love,
JEnnifer
Hi Richard,
A BIG WELCOME HOME to you!!! I didn't think you'd be home till the middle of the week!! That's wonderful! I'm glad to hear everything is going so well. Keep resting and continue to get lots of fluids in you. We'll see you soon. I'm getting my cookie pans ready!!! Love Terrie & Ed
Outta Philly and back in good 'ole Lancaster County!! Yeah! I'm praying that you can rest, sleep and rest some more today and tomorrow so that your strength will once again increase! So happy that your body is responding so favorably to the chemo!! An answer to our prayers. Crazy good first day of "Spring Plumber Days!", Mom S. made sure that we didn't ONLY eat 25 hot dogs for our lunch and supper....she made the MZI sales staff a crock pot pizza casserole and a pumpkin choc. chip cake :) :) Ahhhh......Moms!!
Miss Daphne..... you look so different in the picture of you and Richard. Letting your hair grow so that you can pull it up for your wedding or just trying a "longer do"? You must have also lost weight...you look soo thin!! Make sure you get your rest, vitamins and lots of kisses from "Richie!" so that you stay healthy!!
Love,
Kim Zim
Dude!
Glad to hear that things are progressing in a positive direction. I'm sure you're happy to be home. I've been volunteering at Lancaster General Hospital over the past 6 months and find that the biggest problem there is that the place is full of sick people! You sure don't want to be a part of that... :-)
You don't look bad at all in a bald condition. You may grow to like it. Possibly when you go out on your own as a plumber you can advertise as "The Bald Plumber - we never get hair in your drain!" No? Oh well. It's a thought.
On a related note, a barber who was badly hung over nicked the customer he was shaving. The customer commented, "You see what too much liquor will do to you?" the barber replied "Yeah - it sure makes your skin tender."
Anyway, keep on keepin' on. See ya!
Steve
Hello Richard, Daphne and Family,
Hope you're doing OK since you came
home on Monday! I just want you to know you are being thought of and prayed for every day - I will not give up praying for one second!
Get strong now!
Love and hugs, Aunt Paula
Hello, Richard. It is a beautiful day in Virginia today. Sun is shining and reminding us that there is a real rebirth on the way. Spring is the time for that, and so it will be for you, dude! Get through the medicines that you've got to get through and then onward and upward. As we can tell from what you write and what you are doing, your good attitude is going to be one of your strongest assets. Hug that cutie, Daphne, for us. Tell Mom, Dad and Peter that we send love and hugs to the whole gang! Aunt Dolores and Uncle Michael
